SABI

Litter Bin design of Santorini

Awarded the first prize and constructed by the municipality of

Santorini Island

® Sabi litter bin awarded the first prize and located throught the alleys of Fira of Santorini island.

SABI is inspired by Cyclades and Santorini island’s aesthetic. The faceted conical form

represents the elaborated sea’s surface as well as both the steep rocky sides of the

island and the image of the sleeping volcano. The orifice just because of its uneven

sides, it is structured in such a way that refers to the structure of the stairs. The sides

also end up in a distinctive spiral which is a symbol of growth and resembles the shape

of the “coil”, which is the special vineyard of Santorini.

The “SaBi” bin consists of two main particles: an inner one and an outer casing.

The first one, is a cylindrical metallic skeleton in which a plastic 50 litters bag can be

placed. This structure is screwed on the ground in order to stabilize the whole product

in case of adverse weather conditions or any kind of vandalism. The outer shell

represents a rotating conical octahedron, in the top of which eight anisotropic sides

end up, structured in such a way that a logarithmic spiral is created.

The “Sabi” awarded the first prize by the municipality of Santorini, which constructed

and located throught the alleys of Fira of Santorini.
